This homemade smoky charred chicken is all about bold flavour with minimal effort. Properly grilled tender chicken, caramelized vegetables, and a glossy sweet red chili glaze come together in a simple pan-grilled recipe that feels comforting yet exciting. Perfect for when you want something easy, smoky, and full of character.


Ingredients

  • Chicken pieces (bone-in or boneless)

  • Diced onion

  • Chopped garlic

  • Chopped ginger

  • Chunked tomato

  • Sweet red chilli sauce

  • Lemon juice

  • Sugar

  • Salt

  • Black pepper powder

  • Oil

  • Chopped coriander leaves (optional, for garnish)


Method

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add the chicken pieces directly.
    Grill on medium heat, turning occasionally, until the chicken is half cooked and lightly charred on both sides.

  2. Add diced onion, chopped garlic, and ginger, followed by chunked tomatoes.
    Grill everything together, allowing the vegetables to soften and absorb the smoky flavour.

  3. Sprinkle a little water so everything comes together.
    Continue cooking until the chicken becomes fully tender while retaining a grilled texture.

  4. Add lemon juice, sugar, salt, and black pepper powder. Mix well.

  5. Add the sweet red chilli sauce, tossing and stirring until the chicken and vegetables are evenly coated.

  6. Lower the flame, cover the pan, and cook for 5–6 minutes so the flavours blend and the glaze thickens beautifully.

  7. Finish by drizzling a little extra sauce on top or garnishing with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve this smoky sweet red chilli chicken hot, straight from the pan. It pairs beautifully with plain rice, noodles, toasted bread, or even as a standalone dish. Easy to prepare, packed with flavour, and deeply satisfying—this is homemade comfort with a smoky twist.
