AHAAR BANGLA- A SALUTE To BENGAL CUISINE
The distinctive food carnival named – Ahaar Bangla took place in Kolkata. I was fortunate enough to attend the festival. The big push behind my presence was my mentor Suhrita Chakraboty, who constantly inspires me to attend the festival.
The unique intelligence and soul initiative behind this celebration is Mamta Banerjee -Chief Minister of West Bengal. Her distinctive idea of arranging this kind of carnival claims unquestionable admiration and appreciation .This Food Festival celebrated Bengal through showcased the uniquely admired luscious cuisine of the state was initiated on 21st October, 2016 at Milan Mela Ground (Opposite Science City) Kolkata. This unique food carnival had been celebrated for five days organized by Government of West Bengal in association with other concerned departments of the Government like Information and Cultural Affairs, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises & Textiles, Food Processing Industries & Horticulture and various entities namely, Sufal Bangla (a venture under Agricultural Marketing Department), West Bengal State Export Promotion Society, and Mother Dairy Calcutta. The exclusive intention of this special fair was to provide a platform where the producers/ providers and the consumers can intermingle under one roof and which in turn should straightforwardly benefit the larger farming population of the State.
As gems of this precious crown many renowned restaurants of Kolkata participated in the carnival along with their counterpart from districts of West Bengal. The festival was occupied with variety of cuisines from Rusian to Bengali. In the list of big chunks 6 Ballygung Place, Oh! Calcutta, Budha Bites, Charnocks, SIGRI, Bijoli Grills, Pithe Bilashi, Spices and Sauces, New Horizon Enterprise, Tangerine Merry- Go Hotel & Restaurants Pvt. Ltd, Haka ( A unit of Specialty Restaurants Ltd.), Global Grill, Continental Catering Services, Benfish, Chutney Cherry, Apanjan Kalighat, The Wall- Pan Asian. In International segment participants were Russia, Bangladesher Rasona and many others. Reputed Chefs created exotic fusion in food items using all local traditional and new ingredients of the state. This innovative festival provided its visitors the opportunity to not only tests the gourmet cuisine of Bengal but also of buy the ingredients that go into the making of these dishes.
All four permanent hall of the Milan Mela were utilized as the Food Court with separate and dedicated Court catering delicacies. Apart from the food counters, there were single outlets of various cooking products, appliances and vegetable and non vegetable raw component. “Theme Food” named special zone featured exclusively inventive themes each day. The festival arranged ethnic and cultural programmes with folk songs, contemporary Bangla song delivered by eminent artists of state on an open stage which was visible from all side of the corner and add flavor to this fair. To enhance the flavor to the festival an exotic cookery competition was arranged for all irrespective of age and culture. Other than the competition there were talk shows with famous chefs, eminent writers, poets and other well-known personalities took important part of this year’s festival. In total those 5 days were packet full of appreciably pleasing activity.

Ahaar Bangla -a celebration of food which able to melt thousands of hearts with its taste, color, essence and charisma. People celebrated food with culture. In the middle of the busy city like Kolkata one can have rare Bengali fish platter and get delighted with the Baul song (folk song of Bengal) –this is pure magic. This festival brings all kind of people in one roof irrespective of cast, culture, test and language.
